Who are we?

NOW (No Other Way) CIC is a Community Interest Company addressing the intertwined ecological, economic, and social crises of our time, and the ideologies, systems, cultures, and institutions that sustain them. We challenge the assumptions and narratives that shape how we understand the world and normalise exploitation, helping people see more clearly and rethink what no longer serves the wellbeing of the Earth and all its inhabitants.

Working at the intersection of economics, ecology, and ethics, an approach that goes beyond ESG to address the deeper questions of meaning, values, and the conditions for life to flourish, we are committed to developing regenerative, just, and life-centred alternatives. For those seeking to build a more sustainable, caring, and equitable society, this means rethinking how we understand ourselves, educate future generations, and organise business and social life so that they serve the common good and support the long-term flourishing of all life on Earth.

Why are we doing this?

Deep down, we all know it's not alright. We are living through a systemic breakdown: ecological collapse, growing wealth inequality, declining mental health, and an economic culture built on extraction and short-term gain, what Jonathan Rowson calls the exhaustion of modernity. This trajectory is not just unsustainable, undermining future livelihoods and causing widespread harm; it is also irrational and immoral, with the cost of climate damage alone estimated at $600 trillion.

With the advent of neoliberalism and globalisation, we have inverted the natural order, placing economics above ethics and ecology. Read our position paper, "A Hierarchical Theory of Modern Crisis."

Everything is connected. Our wellbeing is inseparable from that of others and the Earth itself. Yet the systems we have built driven by consumption, competition, profit, and separation, have severed this truth, distorting how we live, work, and relate.

Change is no longer optional. Whether sooner through conscious choice, or later through crisis and collapse, we will have to change how we live. We must reimagine what it means to be human. We are burning in a fire we collectively lit.

We must act now.

NOW (no other way).

NOW is a paradox. The present moment is the only thing any of us ever truly experience and yet we spend most of it somewhere else. Replaying the past. Rehearsing the future. The now is everything, and we treat it like a waiting room.

NOW is a contradiction. We accept, in principle, that there is only now. And then we live as though the things that matter are happening elsewhere, in some other time, to some other version of ourselves. We hold the idea at arm's length and call it wisdom.

NOW is an assumption. Perhaps the most dangerous one. That the way things are done is simply the way things are. That the economic structures, the inherited political systems, the unexamined logic, these are reality, not choices. When we take the current way for granted, we stop looking for another. The now narrows. The infinite collapses to a single point.

But NOW also means No Other Way. And here is the twist: to be genuinely present is to see that within this moment, there are an infinite number of ways forward. The constraint is the opening. To say there is no other way is not resignation, it is a radical invitation. We are not passengers in a fixed system. We get to decide what comes next.

NOW Movement is a research and development think tank. We challenge the assumptions we have stopped noticing and open up new ways of seeing, thinking and acting.
